I have a 1901 S Morgan dollar I recently purchased. It's somewhere in the 'good' grade range. Nothing spectacular. It has what looks like some scotch tape residue on the back. Just curious if a rinse in acetone would remove something like this?

Yes, but be aware that acetone will take everything organic off the coin and nlt just the glue. It may end up looking cleaned.

  4. If its just in the good range and doesn't have the original frosting on the coin anymore, then its OK to use acetone. If Acetone doesn't work, I always had good luck using Blue Magic Metal Cleaner Cream, but its expensive. Regarding MS quality coins, I was told after the die hits a coin, it creates a very slight frosting effect which may be taken off with any chemical. I'm still a novice but this guy seems to be an expert.

Wow, that's 9 minutes of my life I'll never get back. The only comment about the video I'll make is that he showed the coin after he treated it but didn't show it before! Negates anything he did!

Pretty sure most folks know this, but for those who don't - Blue Magic Metal Cleaner Cream - this product should never be used on coins !
