what type of Damage does this nickel have?

    The coin looks like the metal was spread with a knife. it's both sides
    someone said it was a stuck through grease.... Not Sure ..... any help would be great n1.jpg n3.jpg n5.jpg n5.jpg nickel3.jpg

    If you look at the field you can see evidence of a worn die strike. The rest is just circulation damage over 39 years.

    All of those parallel striations that you see are evidence of extreme die deterioration. ~ Chris

    Stressed out dies.

    Nickels are very tough coins, and they can chew of dies like crazy. It was a big problem in the 19th century. Mint workers hated the copper-nickel planchets. They call them "the devil's copper."

    Most times you see that orange peel look, its an old worn out die.
