The coin looks like the metal was spread with a knife. it's both sides someone said it was a stuck through grease.... Not Sure ..... any help would be great
If you look at the field you can see evidence of a worn die strike. The rest is just circulation damage over 39 years.

Stressed out dies. Nickels are very tough coins, and they can chew of dies like crazy. It was a big problem in the 19th century. Mint workers hated the copper-nickel planchets. They call them "the devil's copper."
