These are being sold for a elderly woman who's husband collected pennies and nickels during WW2 and wrapped them in newspapers from the day.
Got be kidding. 80 year newspaper that is bright white:rolleyes:

I have found newspapers in my building from 1944 during demolition.. They were very brittle. They crumbled no matter how much I tried to save them.
    That is definitely a scam!

Amazing, how much work is it to line up the headlines on each roll of coins? Just the right width, just the right depth. Prolly not a good place to send your money.

Yup! especially when the headlines line up after I would think at least 4 or 5 wrap overs of each roll to keep them tight.

I have seen actual rolls from that period wrapped in newspaper. First, they were done at home, since banks were more professional and used proper wrapper. Second, they were literally falling apart, with sections coming off, etc.

Scam for the greedy, though almost all scams prey on greed.

As an antique dealer the storage conditions are the difference. The metal in the newspaper will also affect the paper. I have several newspapers that were printed during the Civil War and none of them is brittle. The same with newspapers with President Nixon, JFK's assassination or going to the moon. I have newspapers from less than 10 years ago that are brittle. They crumble easily.

It's are on the storage conditions of them. The same thing can be said of old books. Think about it.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

And don't forget the quality of the paper is also a factor.

All perfectly straight on the rolls. All with headlines, not obscure fine print. Yeesh.

    That I can understand.
The full ad describe's it as more of a little hobby of only pennies and nickels from a man during the war.
I have found 3 or 4 year old newspapers in a draw away from the sun and elements and they are yellowed and dry..
People are bidding and buying them though:( and we cannot do a thing about it..
I don't even see todays news paper looking so white and crisp, only known reprints that seem to be thicker paper to use as posters on a wall..

His penny rolls seem to average $50 to $60 on bids.
All his listings come out private on his feedback, from what was bought to the ebay generated name you are bidding against. I have never seen so much privacy on ebay from a seller??
He seems to have all the bases covered to scam people. This is a scammer on a higher level:rolleyes:
His feed back is good because he seems to throw in a VF vdb into the mix every now and then and some think they scored big.. I saw a 26s thrown in also.
Yes some teens, 20's and the majority are 30's but only 1 or 2 coins with a mint mark. All the "Happy" customers seem to mention the exact same coins in the rolls they bought.
There was 6 hours left on a bid at $9.25, I bet it goes up fast soon..
Never mind, I put in a $10 bid and it wasn't enough. I knew I wasn't going to win anyways.

Hopefully someone who has purchased these rolls will have a connection with a company that can test for chemical composition and the age of the paper itself. Then, and only then, will the seller be outed. If you look closely, the font of the headlines doesn't seem to match old style font. It reminds me of the fake pictures of the "old" west at different tourist spots where you can dress in "old" west clothing for a photo-op. The font/print is too modern looking.

You're right, a scam for sure, but then there is a lot of that going on with "unsearched" rolls.

So far looking at the pictures I have seen newspapers from Boston, New York and Washington.
He did a fine job of clipping of the paper to where it shows the States that these fake reprinted newspapers were from..
Time to put my opinion and postings here to rest;)

If his coins are 1/10th as well preserved as his old newspapers, he's going to have one heck of a lot of happy customers. I'd love to see one of his rolls. And maybe that's where he gets you? Everyone knows with 99.9% certainty that his goods are bogus, but many still feel a strange yet strong urge to see just one of his rolls. So people will bid for reasons they can't even fathom. Bid after bid from people not sure why they are doing it. They show up for his sales as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, I won't mind if you check my cents and nickels out", this seller will say, "It's only $60 on average per roll". And then they'll pass over the money without even thinking about it.....because it's money they have and prestigious MS Red '14-D & 15-S rolls they lack. And when their beautiful rolls arrive, it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. Their excitement will be so thick that they will have to brush it aside from their faces. Oh yes, people will bid. This post is starting to take on a Field of Dreams sort of feel to it.....sorry to stray
