I'm new to collecting and found this site interesting.I'll ask my first question now.Whats the best way to store mint wrapped coins for long term?leave in wrappers?change over to tubes?are tubes air tight? They are currently in mint wrappers(paper)in the white mint boxes. Thanks Roy
Howdy Roy - Welcome to the Forum !! Depends on what you plan to do in the future and how you want the coins to look in the future. As a general rule, coins left in the original wrapper will sell for more. But if you leave them in the roll you'll never know if you have a true gem coin contained inside - maybe more than one. As single gem can easily sell for many multiples of what the entire roll will sell for. Of course the downside of opening the roll is that if you don't find any high grade coins in the roll, you may as well spend them for it could be a long time before the searched roll will sell for any premium. No - tubes are not airtight. There are no truly airtight coin holders.
