Appreciate any help identifying the mint, year est. on this silver drachm. Alexander III. AR drachm. Head of Heracles wearing lion's scalp right; Reverse: Zeus seated facing left holding eagle and scepter.
Well, that's a very beautiful coin! Maybe an expert on these will chime in, but it might be more fun to identify it yourself using this very reliable website: http://numismatics.org/pella/?lang=en .
Not an expert, but... (MI) is the civic monogram for Miletos(Ionia). Dated: 295 B.C. - 275 B.C. PRICE 2151
I'd concur that this is Price 2151, so it's the product of the mint of Miletus with dates c. 295-275 BC. What does the slab say, out of interest? Here's what looks like a double die match sold by Numismatik Naumann last year:
Thanks, I wasn't sure what the monogram stood for. So this coin was minted in the years after Alexander III's. Good to know, thank you!
Wow looks like a match! The slab says Ionia, Miletus c. early 3rd Century BC. I was curious how to identify the mint/year from the coin. Don't like to rely on the slab, they sometimes make mistakes too.
Thanks for this resource! I was trying to find a database like this one but had no luck. Much appreciated!
