No, it's struck over a Peace Dollar. If it was strucj on a "hunk of silver", then it would be illegal. Creating dollars out of thin air - like the Federal Reserve.

If the Treasury had said, "we THINK that all 1964 Peace Dollars struck at the Denver Mint have been melted.", then the loophole would have been removed.

I'd add $10 to the price of silver melt. But, some add more.

It's a clever novelty, and, IMO, worth nothing more.

Just because you don't want one...doesn't make it worth less. I wouldn't pay $500 for one either...I wouldn't pay $100 for one because I don't see a need for one in my collection. They are cool...but not for me.

That being said, my opinion on this piece has nothing to do with its value. I'm sitting here in my home office and on the shelf is a football card that I could probably sell for $100. That's a fact...not an opinion. Perhaps it's not something that would interest you and as a result you wouldn't pay for it...but that doesn't make it worth any less in the market.

The DCarr pieces might be worth $10 over melt to you...meaning that's all you would pay (and frankly, probably all I would pay too). But to say "in my opinion [it's] worth nothing more" isn't really a true assessment of this piece. It is worth more than that...you and I just wouldn't pay its value for the privilege of owning one.

Nope, I meant what I wrote. In the long run, I don't see these being worth what some are paying for them. Novelty fades.

You didn’t say anything about long term. You simply said that in your opinion these are worth a little over spot.

You’re welcome to your opinion...but based in the market your opinion is dead wrong.

Long term...who knows. I don’t invest in coins...they tend to not appreciate fast enough across the board.

This guy, for reasons that escape me, apparently can’t stand the fact that people “comment” without his permission.

You are hilarious. The Dandanistas are the ones who have hissy fits if anybody dares to have a differing opinion.
