I will agree with XF-40. Nice strike for a 26-S!

I would go EF-40 also. I think there is too much wear for an AU.

I think it's just my pics guys, except in the pics it looks AU to me. Does it look familiar?

    Phoenix,
You will have better luck with coins that are not mushy. They are easier to grade in hand and especially in photos. Secondly, try taking your pic straight on. I think it will show you detail better.

Thanks for the tips rlm. I'll have to try straight on, instead of the angle. I'll be back later with more pics. :D

NGC seems like it was a bit generous on that one
    xf-45 for me

Nope, I don't think they were generous, I think it's just my pics. This is a real nice coin. And besides, Jack said it was a primo AU coin, so I trust his word, along with my opinion on it also. ;)

I am beginning to see a better coin. How about one straight down on the coin

Do you mean with me over the coin taking a picture dead on, or with the coin tilted longways while I take a pic of it like that?

I mean dead over. The coin should be round with no edge showing. If glare is the problem, move the light. Look at the pics Lehigh takes, PCGS takes, AJ, leadfoot, etc. Thay are all straight on pics.

IMHO, those are the best you have posted thus far, but I would still have said XF45.

So, do you think the coin was overgraded?

You have the coin in hand so it is kind of hard for me to disagree with your opinion. That being said, I could be swayed to say there is little enough wear for AU, but there just seems too many nicks on that obv for me to say the coin is au.
