    The cheek looks better than AU, but the fields scream AU/XF. the compromise is AU something.

    Conditional rarities like the 84 s are graded carefully. The TPGs know of its conditional rarity, and position of importance in the Morgan series. I have seen some charitable grading of this date in circulated grades. However, any grader will think long and hard if they get a slider coin, as the value jump in MS is so drastic from AU. Therefore, you will see plenty of AU grades for that date, but extremely few MS. After all, when one gets a jump from $400-600 in mid to high AU, and $20,000 in low grade MS, they won’t overgrade in that direction. Likewise, coins that might be details for another date often get a pass for a date like this.
