And this is Why it's hard to read....and grades all over the place. Please understand @ op nothing personal it's strickly the coin has issues. This is how you learn in this hobby, if anyone here hasn't purchased a problem coin knowingly or unknowingly and say no they haven't they are lying. But you need to study coins eye appeal not spend appeal....you eye will tell you...what looks natural and what looks tampered with. It's all about the knowlege...plenty to be found here.
A 1938-D is neither inexpensive nor easy in any of the higher grades. My MS-66 was not cheap, in fact it is the most expensive coin I own. This one I would guess is an AU 50.
I feel like there is a lot of detail for the grade. Possibly PCGS decided they could silently net grade a bit and not put it in a problem holder.
