Crazy to see the bidding some key dates get, especially these listings below, the buyers are pretty much crossing their fingers and hoping they get an authentic key date. Cant make out much from the pics. A fool and his money are soon parted. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1916-D-Silver-Mercury-Dime-/254598949654?hash=item3b4747ab16%3Ag%3AmtEAAOSwqBtewGzG&nma=true&si=PtNf77viVxanqSukX7VDjeDZw0s%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1916-D-SILVER-MERCURY-DIME-GRADES-FAIR/313085674324?hash=item48e55c4354:g:aXkAAOSwRrJewUcT Just an unc for less than the price of a p1 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1916-D-Mercury-Dime-Estate-Fresh-FREE-USA-SHIPPING/133421322664?hash=item1f1087d1a8:g:6ZMAAOSwy8ZezVWV
That's being generous. The first two have no way of checking the mint mark location for verification, the second you can not even see. The last one is from a seller who deals primarily in toys. No way I would EVER buy a key date raw. I'd say three bidders are getting their hearts broken and money gone.
Unless you are an expert, you NEVER buy key, frequently counterfeited dates like the 1916-D Mercury Dime, uncertified, even you can see the coin IN PERSON, not just from a photograph. If you buy from pictures, it's like putting money in a slot machine that seldom pays off.
