This coin is the diameter of a dime but weighs 2.7. Will not stick to a magnet and does not sound like copper or silver when dropped. Also appears to be struck over another coin of some sort. Any ideas about the metal and/or the original coin? Thanks eveyo 20200524_083935.jpg 20200524_084457.jpg ne

Appears to be a normal, but heavily corroded, 1944 wheat cent.

Corrosion is what has happened to your Cent.

Definitely not struck over another coin.

Yep, acid ate away about 0.4 grams of the metal.

Your coin has been attacked by corrosion so that's why it's light in weight. It's heavily damaged and worth face value.

I am sure it sounds like corrosion coated copper when dropped.

A heavily corroded coin can be an enigma. While there may be enough of the coin left the identify it, it has other problems, like not sounding like similar coins or weighing near the same. I am sure that @paddyman98 and other metal detecting collectors can attest to that. Your coin appears to be as stated; just a badly damaged cent.
