1943 Steel Penny Question ...

It is attracted to a magnet but it doesn’t have that steel look to it .. As you see it’s in pretty good shape for the year but it looks nothing like any other steel penny I’ve seen .. Any input ?

    Hard to tell since your photos are a bit washed out. If it is a coppery color, it was plated after it left the mint.

    Jeez .. I just want someone to tell me what I want to here .. lol . I here ya , but if you see it in person it doesn’t look damaged at all . I’m going to go with re-plated & worth a couple of 100 thousand .. & how im going to spend it . Lol

    Alurid .. yes that looks similar to mine ! Did you do any research on it ? What are your findings ?

    Welcome to CT. Glad to see you have a good sense of humor. For several years, companies were copper plating 1943 steel cents and selling them as novelties. I have a couple myself. Put it in a flip and keep it for a fun coin to look at and wish it were real. LOL

    Just poked around google a bit, not much. I assume the coin I posted was electroplated due to its pebbly surface. I have another that has a smoother finish.

    It's probably worth a buck for the novelty value. There is no doubt about a magnet test on a 1943 cent. They will literally leap onto a magnet.
