I just purchased this 1989 cent struck on an unplated planchet.

Q1. How many of these dated 1989 are thought to exist?

Q2. What is a typical retail price for one of these and how might the price vary by date? No secret here, I paid $65 for this one.

    Very best regards,

Back in the mid 1990's, I sold my collection of unplated cents, all BU. They averaged $150.00 each, except the 1982-D small date; which sold for a LOT more. I really have not seen these being publicized as much as they were in the 1990's, so I couldn't tell you current value. The coin looks really nice, so I think you got a great deal.
Question, Is that a spot on the reverse, below the E in CENTS or is this from the glare?

I hate to post a reply in this thread so late, but I have a 1988 plate-job Lincoln that I bought as an unplated that I wanted to share. I posted it on LCR and a few members chimed in and suggested it could have been plated. Honestly I never considered that as a possibility. M. Diamond confirmed that it was plated after I sent it to him for analysis.

In the interest of adding to the collective information (or lack of) regarding unplated cents here is mine. You'll notice it is rather lustrous which I am told is uncommon for genuine examples. When it was weighed it was above weight as opposed to being below like it should have been. It is came in at 2.64 grams, normal clads are 2.5 and unplated versions (genuine or copper striped) are apparently around 2.45 grams ...

    Collect,

    Nice error coin and Congrats!

A1. There is really no way of knowing how many unplated Zinc Cents exist for any Date. The only thing that would be available would be the POP's from PCGS and NGC if they publish that information on these type of error coins (which I doubt).

A2. There has been a wide range of prices fetched for the unplated Zinc Cents and with any coin, condition (grade and appearance) is everything. However, I would imagine that in Raw BU condition, your's could fetch anywhere from what you paid upwards to $125 but if slabbed and graded by PCGS, it could bring anywhere from $100 to $200.
