I was thinking of opening a new thread for Jovian, but considering all the nice coins of him gathered on this one, including @Valentinian 's incredible rarity, I'll just revive it to add a coin very similar to @dougsmit 's AE1 up to officina. It's not a die match tho.

This AE1 is part of a coinage that started under Julian II's revival of large module base metal issues and ended with Valens by the mid 360s. Antioch had a great output for Jovian, which means that although scarce in good condition, these coins are available usually. The bust with rosette diadem might be a bit scarcer than the usual pearl-diademed, but according to RIC both 228 and 229 are noted as S (scarce).

It has the pleasing aspect of an overall mediocre condition coin but of a nice size, weight and design. Plus the interesting head gear of the emperor in the effigy. Some traces of silvering are visible, which is quite interesting also.

Interesting thread that I didn't recall. Still have that terrible Jovian though. Glad the thread has been resurrected.

For some reason or another, I like Jovian much better than Julian II. I don't have any very interesting coins from his reign, though:

While we're at it, and even though it's been posted only a few days ago, for the purpose of unity, I'll re-post here my other Jovian

The large AE1 for Jovian was minted at Heraclea, Thessalonica, Constantinople and Antioch. Heraclea issues seem to be the least available, followed by the mintage of Constantinople (oddly so), with Thessalonica and Antioch making the bulk of the type. Here is a horrible AE1 Jovian from Constantinople that was 10EUR shipped in 2015:

Dang. I assume that’s the same coin? That’s a great cleaning job.

Maybe too great. Maybe that’s a different coin. Nice.

Nice additions everyone! I thought the same thing, @Gavin Richardson. I was like why can’t I have those kind of results?!
