Tonight I searched my 700th box of Lincoln cents (at least by the count in my notebook). At box 699 I was thinking to myself that it had been quite awhile since I had seen an IHC. Imagine my surprise when this fell out of a roll. I expected it to be a later date 1900-something but I was blown away when I saw what it was. 1879! At 141 years old, this is now the oldest coin I have found while searching rolls. Is she in great shape? No. But you gotta give it to her, she has been out working hard for 141 years. Show me a 2020 Lincoln cent after 141 years of circulation and tell me how great it will look...Oh wait, they will have all rotted into nothingness!
Great feeling, isn't it? I got ahold of an 1897 barber in a coin slot reject at work. and 33 mercury dimes. ever get a roll that was just good find after good find?
I've never had a roll THAT good. My best ever box was 300+ wheats. That was pretty awesome. I'd probably die if I found 33 mercs.
I wish I had taken more pics. My coworker took one but it was an awful photo. That box sounds nice. Just wish I could get ahold of some for myself.
I am doing alright in getting boxes of coin. The problem I am having is dumping them. Whenever my dump bank opens back up, I'm gonna have about 10 trips with $200 in cents each time before I clear my backlog out.
The 1994P in the photo from the OP looks pretty nice. I'd likely set it aside and save it if I found it.
I'd have a serious talk with that coin. "What the hell are you doing here?" Exciting find, I know the feeling.
