  1. Double Die

Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

This is from the same mint set as the strike through LMC I posted a few days ago. At first since I was looking at it through the cello, I thought the lighting was playing tricks on me. But even after adjusting my position for a different angle, it was plain as day.

    I present my 1971 D DDO-004/DDR-002/FS-101 Kennedy Half. Since the reverse doubling is minor, I did not focus on it for this post. 71101.jpg 711011.jpg 711012.jpg 711013.jpg 711014.jpg 711015.jpg 711016.jpg 711017.jpg 711018.jpg 711019.jpg

Humn.. love all the pics but its still Hard to identify this one to my novice eye.
Is it the T (LIBERTY) and the marks in the 9 (1971) the most significant indicators of DDO?

Nice strong separation lines on that one double die.

WE TRUST is the strongest with well defined spread and separation . There's the IIN GOD as well right behind it.

I am not sure your half dollar is the 71D DDO-004/DDR-002, FS-101. A good marker I use to confirm this die pair in my collection is the short light die gouge above the C in AMERICA, between the C and the rim, see attached photo. You can see that die gouge in James Wiles photo on Variety Vista stage C of the 71D DDR-002 to confirm. I see it on all stages A-D. When I look at your photos, the only doubling I see is on the UST of the last photo. Everything else looks like series doubling or reflection and glare doubling to me. That doubling on your UST also looks like the doubling on 71D DDO-007, DDO-013 and DDO-014, all of which can be found in Mint Sets. They all have markers identified in the CONECA Listings. Also attached are a couple of photos of the doubling on the 71D DDR-002.

Here are pics of the gouge above the C that you said is a marker for this variety. VV makes no mention of this as a marker and Wexler has no listing so I was unaware of this. As for TRUST, all of the letters have well defined separation, it's just the reflection getting in the way.
Thank you for pointing this out.
