I picked both of these up at work Friday. I normally don't go for anything newer than the 1960's unless in great condition but noticed that these bills had small premiums listed in Paper Money Values. The 50 as near as I can tell is a CU note. The corners are as sharp as if it was just cut and there are no hints of bends, creases, folds or dirt. It does look like there is a bit of ink on the front where the paper is embossed from 'The United States of America' on the back... Maybe from rubbing the back of another bill in a strap? How would this effect its grade? The 20 on the otherhand has seen some circulation but wanted to check with you guys before I did anything rash. PMV has it listed for $25 in VF. What are your grading oppinions on both notes? Keep in mind I'm not collecting just for monetary value alone, but just need to know if its worth being out the face value to hold onto them. I would keep them both but especially the fifty because it is in such nice condition. What's good about keeping a stash of old style's is that you can hold onto them for emergency's and wont dare to use them unless you truly need them.
I unfortunately had to spend the 20 today...Bummer . I think I'm definately going to try to hold on to the 50. Does anyone know if the ink transfer on the front of the note would affect its grade? It seems to be in perfect shape besides that. I'm waiting for my Blackbook in the mail so I dont have a price guide quite yet. Can anyone tell me the price of this note in CU condition? I'm no expert at grading, but I do believe the ink on the obverse (which was offset from an adjacent note during printing) would rule out any possibility of the higher grades (e.g. 70, 69, 68) no matter how good the paper quality and printing alignments are.
Definatly. However, finding a $50 in that condition will indeed bring over face. As I said, $85 in 63. It looks to be amazing quality though, so we need a back scan to put a better price on it. Personally, if you can spare the $50, keep it. :hail:

Here is a scan of the reverse. From the scan it looks slightly dirty around the boders but I'm convinced that this is ink transfered by rubbing another bill in a strap.
If I were a $50 collector, I would plunk down $90-100. That little bit shouldn't affect value much at all. :thumb:
