Hello everyone, So I have created threads on the following; FOG - Found On Ground FIC - Found In CoinStar FIM - Found In Meter Today's thread is on.. VTM - Vacating Tenant Money One of the tenants in my commercial building I work at ended thier sub-lease. Once they tell me to clean up then eveything the leave behind is for keeps. These were found this morning. 1 - 1000 Yen Japan 5 - Canadian Miscellaneous Coins 3 - $1.00 Bills US 1 - $1.00 Presidential Dollar Coin 7 - Quarters 11 - Dimes 2 - Nickels 17 - Pennies (Cents)
Out of all of them, the yen is my most favorite. Can't even imagine how many of those I spent while stationed in Japan for 5 1/2 years. Back then 1000 yen was about $13.00. Yen rate now is terrible and that same 1000 yen is anywhere from $7.50 - $8.00 (depending on the exchange rate). I visit Japan frequently and a Venti sized drink at Starbucks costs right at or about that much right now.
My boss owns the building where I work. A bank had leased the entire bottom floor for literally decades (40+ years) and then moved out when they closed the branch. Of course when they were all moved out and gone, I got the keys and went in to do a nice little treasure hunt. Only found a few pennies in some of the office desk drawers. I went in the vault and looked inside just a few safety deposit boxes, but only a hand full of them. I'd be there all day and night if I tried to go through all of them. Oh well, at least I won't have to order paperclips for a long long time. While I was looking around, I picked up all the paperclips I came across and brought them back to the office for our use.
Pretty interesting finds! I hope some day someone forgets an entire hoard of error coins and the good karma flows your way!!!!
Where exactly did you find the money? All in one place, or scattered about in different locations. Hard to believe the employees didn't take it with them. After a good friend of mine found a 50 year old letter to Santa behind a desk drawer (and it was written up in the local paper), I always pull out drawers and check inside, underneath, and behind them, do you?
