    Hey all

    First post! :smile

I have some Austrian coins which were given to me by my mother, just wondering if anyone can tell me about their worth?

    I have;

    - 1831 & 1847 20 Kreuzer (?)
    - 1939 2 Reichs x 2
    - 1934 & 1936 5 Reichs
    - 60's & 70's 1 Schilling
    - 50's-70's 10 Groshen
    - 1957 & 1974 Schilling
    - 1972 50 Groshen
    - There's also a few unknowns, two of which have been converted into a necklace.

    Any info appreciated! :hail:

    Cheers,
    Ash

Seems it ended up in the right forum. Welcome! :) Cannot tell you much about the older (19th century) pieces, but the Austrian Schilling and Groschen coins are pretty common and unfortunately not worth much in that condition.

If you have a 5 Schilling coin with a milled edge, 1960-68, that would be a silver (Ag 640) piece. Also, if any of the 10 Schilling coins is dated 1957-73, it is silver too. More recent coins are copper-nickel. Some of them can still be redeemed in Austria; for 100 schilling you get a little more than 7 euro.

The coins that say "Deutsches Reich" are from Nazi Germany (which Austria was a part of between 1938 and 1945). If the 2 Reichsmark coin (Ag 625) has the B mintmark, it is from Vienna. The two 5 RM pieces (Ag 900) are from Germany; one should have the Potsdam Garrison Church on the other side, one should show president Paul von Hindenburg.

The one I was most curious about is the 1831 20 Kreuzer, I cant find that year in any catalogs?

Possibly it`s a 20 Kreuzer KM 2147 .1252.oz ASW, mintet from 1831-35. Depending on mint mark (A, C, M or V) and grade, it`s worth some where in the range from 3-90 dollars.

    Ed:
    1831 A:
    F - 3.00$
    VF - 6.00$
    XF - 12.00$
    UNC - 30.00$

    1831 C:
    F - 10.00$
    VF - 20.00$
    XF - 40.00$
    UNC - 80.00$

    1831 M:
    F - 8.00$
    VF - 17.00$
    XF - 30.00$
    UNC - 60.00$

    1831 V:
    F - 12.00$
    VF - 25.00$
    XF - 45.00$
    UNC - 90.00$

1 Schilling coins, minted from 1959 to the introduction of the Euro. Struck in aluminium-bronze. A nice little coin  but not worth anything.

The two which have been converted into a necklace is 1 Corona-coins, .1342 oz silver. Worth about 3$ if it wasn`t because of the necklace thing.

The last is a 20 Krajczar from Hungary, KM422 .1252 oz asw, worth about 5-10$
