I think there is something going on here but can't make it out because of dirt and corrosion. Am I safe in assuming this penny is worthless because of its condition? If so I was considering cleaning for the sake of curiosity. Any recommendations are appreciated. Front of bust from hair to nose tip. Thanks all.
Not really. It would still be worth 1 Cent. The issue you see might be a minor lamination. Nothing really major.
I don't think cleaning it will do anything. The coin took a hit where the defective area is. Directly behind that hit is a bulge on the reverse. I would leave it alone.
Cleaning it will not help. It should be left alone. It's worn and circulated and maybe a little damaged but it could also be a lamination issue. It will always be worth face value.
It's so worn down from circulation, I'd say cleaning it won't impact it's value. It's really not that dirty anyways. I don't see any gum, goo, hair, waste, etc on it. Just damaged and worn from circulation, the usual stuff you can't "clean" off.
