Was very surprised to get an American Samoa West Point mint V75 quarter today... Had to use a different crappy phone camera to get this pic showing just the V75 20200517_045029.jpg but was the best I could do for now...

Records show 461M minted, so they will be appearing more frequently.

The "W" "V75" should only have 2mil minted.

It's now unclear how many of the W quarters were actually struck and shipped because of the shutdown at West Point.

'Release of the 2020-W American Samoa quarter dollar occurred earlier than U.S. Mint officials had previously indicated. The U.S. Mint unexpectedly announced April 3 that the 2020-W National Park of American Samoa quarter dollars were to be released into circulation April 6, along with the 2020-W Weir Farm National Historic Site quarter dollars.'

    Then came this announcement:

'The West Point Mint's indefinite shutdown April 15 pursuant to coronavirus pandemic safety precautions will affect the production and release of precious metal bullion, collector coins and gold commemoratives.

The shutdown will also affect output of circulation-quality 2020-W America the Beautiful quarter dollars and Proof, Reverse Proof and Uncirculated Jefferson 5-cent coins issued as bonuses to annual Proof, Silver Proof and and Uncirculated Mint sets, respectively.

“Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Orange County, New York, and out of an abundance of caution, the United States Mint (Mint) has temporarily suspended production at the Mint facility at West Point,” according to the April 15 release issued after 3 p.m. Eastern Time by U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White. “This action is being taken to further reduce the risk of Mint employee exposure to COVID-19. The Mint will resume production once it is deemed prudent to do so.”

U.S. Mint Director David J. Ryder said the precautionary measures are necessary.'

I saw that same announcement, then I noticed that American Samoa privy quarters were appearing in circulation or in rolls based on e-Bay ads. Apparently the U.S. Mint either lied or the head honchos have no clue.

I think the mint meant output of the ATB 3 future W coins. I believe all the WEIR and Samoas were ready for release (april 6) before the mint shut down. It's the other 3 issues that are up in the air.
