Hello, I am new to the Spanish Coin realm but I am looking to get one for my dad for fathers day--preferably a silver Reale with a bust on the front. I found one in particular on eBay (which I know can be a bit sketchy) by a seller named zacemer2. Does anyone know if this seller is legit and sells legit coins, or a good seller that I can buy from that is not super high priced? Thank you!

Is this the item you are referring to?

It is mounted in a bezel. I can't tell if it is genuine or not from the photos. He calls it a "shipwreck" coin but I don't see any documentation to support it. He appears to sell a lot of medals, ribbons, and campaign items, but not specifically numismatic ones. I have no experience with this seller.

He has excellent feedback however it is a pendant with no documentation to a certified ship wreck coin. If looking for a real Reale for your Dad I suggest a graded coin?

Is your dad a collector ? If he is, you definitely don't want to buy a coin made into jewelry, as once that's the done the coin is considered to be damaged forever.

Now if your dad is not a collector, and you're just wanting to get him something as a memento, then getting him a jewelry coin would be a different story, and you would be the best one to judge if he'd like it or not.

If he is a collector, try looking here -

Dan is an authority, if not the authority, on Spanish colonial coins and you'd have no concerns if buying from him.

Thank you all for the advice, I think I am going to avoid that particular seller/listing given the uncertainties about the seller and the coin itself. I see there are a few suggestions of other coins and sellers, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If an old Cobb is what you want I fully agree with @GDJMSP ...... Go to Sedwicks website. You can be 100% assured of authenticity when you purchase from him.
