My favorite is either an even brown Or else a medium/dark green In hand, I do appreciate a glossy black patina, although it can be hard to see in my binder, and they are notoriously difficult to photograph properly This one is a rare find - a matte black, rather than the more common polished coal look
Nice coin @Roman Collector, and neat it's a die match with the BMC example too. Extra bonus I'll toss in this one of Nerva. In hand it is such an amazing coin. Compared with other green patinated coins I have, it redefines glossy green. The only thing is I just cannot get it properly photographed. On the pictures it looks beaten up, but in hand it is nicely evenly patinated and the green color looks emerald. Ok, I'll stop now...
The images were so dark I couldn't make out what coin you posted. So I took the liberty of lightening. I hope you don't mind.
Thanks @Bing. I took those shots in sunlight - hard to make anything out. Since then I've learned to use overhead lighting (a spotlight in fact) to capture better images of dark coins. A little bit of improvement in my technique here and there with more practice!
Nice coins everyone, they make me green with envy. Here's a few of my greenest: Antoninus Pius dupondius Justin II follis Lucilla sestertius Marcus Aurelius sestertius Maxentius temple AE Maximinus Thrax sestertius Julian the Apostate little AE
