    The area surrounding the mintmark is suffering from zinc rot. That bubble is the since under the thin copper coating in its first phase of rotting.

    Read somewhere this condition is caused from moisture seeping from the zinc during the plating process. I tried for a few weeks to find the item I read and gave up.

    It's not Doubled. It's zinc and the stain resembles a D.
