Hey guys, I just received a submission back from NGC, and have a question on your opinion about the nickel being full steps or not. First, let me say I didn’t submit these because I thought they were super valuable. But they had a natural tone I really liked and was hoping to get a “star” grade. Anyway, to me this seems to be an obvious FS nickel. Can you guys give me your opinion? Surly the small contact marks on the far lower right side wouldn’t prevent this from a FS superlative. Maybe so though. Is it worth a resubmission to try for the FS (purely for my own personal satisfaction I know the monetary gain would not justify re submitting it). Thanks in advance (included pics of the other 2 coins with their “fun” toning). Brent
Ok and you this......if you break a crumb in half.....do you now have two crumbs , or two half crumbs?
I do have a set of Sag slabed 1986 89 I can't recall that show full steps as well the ticks and nicks that at one time may of given a pass sort of for nice strike and steps but...that one little hit that disqualified So back in the FSNC days not only did you grade FS, but the ticks ,and nicks as well.
While it may not be true FULL STEPS,that maybe the best struck business strike you will see. The 1960's decade had horribly struck coinage ie. Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes and Franklin halves. In my book those are keepers. Search Heritage archives and see if you find anything even that nice. The only way you'll find FULL STEPS for the 1960-69 decade is to buy PROOF coins. Even there you should be very selective.
I don’t think those are FS. Frankly, I think the designation is given in an inconsistent fashion, leading to a lot of head scratching.
Look at the mark across the steps on the right hand side. That's why. A FS can not have any breaks in the steps.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback and I agree now that I put more thought into it. I guess after looking through 100+ Jefferson nickels from my 1959-1964 mint sets, I got excited about one that displayed 5 straight lines in the “step area” instead of a big blob of rounded metal! Of course I’ve found and submitted FS even received the 5, 6 AND 6.5 step attribute from ANACS. But the two that so far eluded me are a “full head” from a SL 25c and a full torch on a Roosevelt dime. Any advice on those? Thanks again you guys, that’s why I love it here, honest opinions without people feeling they need to “pull any punches” I would rather have your honest thoughts then trying to soften it up for me! Thanks!
