Years ago I bought my first incuse reverse coins from Southern Italy. Both were the most common tripod types from Kroton. Both were faulted and of the later, thicker fabric version but not bad for my price bracket. At that time, I became aware of another incuse reverse of Kroton where the reverse tripod was replaced by a flying eagle. After wanting one of these for 30+ years, I bid on one described as having 'minor scratches under magnification'. The coin arrived with what I would call gouges (undescribed) surrounded by the described minor scratches. I should have sent it back but, as is often the case with auctions, the competition largely turned their noses up at the coin so it was worth what I paid as long as you hold it right so as to minimize the scratches. Most sell for considerably more than I paid and all but two I found were of the more common variety with QPO only rather than QPO _ TON. Mine has a cleat TON but QPO has worn away almost completely. Does anyone collect these to the degree that the would care this is a TON coin? I don't but I did want that bird and I did not want to spend $7000 for the EF one with TON - that is for sure!. These are always shown with the eagle flying straight to the right but I don't like the angle of the head in that orientation so I am choosing to show it ascending at an angle. These are things you can do when you take your own photos. Post any Incuse reverse Magna Graecia coins you may have where the reverse is a different design than the obverse. My only other one is this AR litra of Metapontum with a single grain backing up the grain ear of the obverse.
Great coins, Doug. Thanks for showing. I notice these coins are very expensive in excellent conditions. Maybe due to their early age? BTW, the tripod type reminds me of the modern brockage error coins.

I got this coin at the first auction I managed to attend live in Europe. I remember this coin for a number of reasons. 1.No one else wanted it. 2.There was a very pretty girl handing out soft drinks and chocolates in the back.
