@posnerfan_48 I believe so and I paid a premium for this for exactly that reason. Apparently that is rare (at least so told by the seller)
Looks like according to Hartill, the left dot is type 14.13 and is slightly rarer than the normal type.
Since @Ken Dorney is no longer on the Forum, here is some Early Chinese Money... the last Fish money is from Ken: CHINA: China Zhou -Chou- 1000-200 BCE Dynasty Bronze cowrie - VF - Rare China Cowrie Shell Pottery China Zhou Dyn 1122-255 BC AE Chuan Bead Money 40mm China Shang Dyn 1766-1154 BC Ant Nose Ge Liu Zhu 2-6g 19-5x11 very scarce H 1-10 China Zhou Dynasty 1046-256 BCE AE Fish Money 67mm 9.5g AB Coole Enc Chinese Coins 6920ff Ex: Ken Dorney
I love the ant nose in particular. Any reason that Ken no longer on here? I'm a little late to the game but did see his vcoins store, though it does not appear to be carrying pre-Han stuff. If he's still selling Zhou era coins I'd love to know!
Thanks for looking that up! I actually don't have access to Hartill. So it makes sense what the seller said. This coin usually worth 10$ or less but I paid around 40$ for the fact that it has the dot!
The Hartill is a must have! I think he says that the ones with a dots are worth around $10 compared to the more common type which is worth $5, but as @TypeCoin971793 has informed me, the Hartill price estimates are out of date.
Yea I only have couple ancient Chinese coins as samples . I am not primarily collecting them so that is why I do not have the Hartill
I do not know. Something happened several threads ago, and I had not seen it. Here are a couple other Ant-Noses that I have: China Shang Dyn 1766-1154 BC Ant Nose Ge Liu Zhu 17-4x10 very scarce H 1.10 China Shang 1766-1154 BCE or Zhou Dynasty Ghost Face Ant Nose 1.65g Hartill 1.4
Very cool! Did you see the neat paper by @TypeCoin971793 on ant noses? Here are mine. A somewhat common 1.4 (acquired from a friend of the forum) and a slightly rarer 1.12 that I got a good deal on because of the chip on the bottom.
Yuppers! He did a great job... I read it a few years ago. Have purchased a few items from him in the past. It is HIS PAW in this pic: China Wu Zhu coin clay mold unearthed in SanMenXia City in HeNan Province full obverse impression partial second impression probly H-8.6 110-90 BCE
I've bought some stuff from him as well. Insane how much knowledge there is on the interweb tubes. Awesome mold, but slightly disappointed that it's not your doggo's paw on it!
LOL, Blue makes all the purchase approval decisions. Actually, she is my buddy, always near me. That is at the office or at home. She is getting old, and has a tough time getting up.
What a cool piece! I'm not well acquainted with ancient Chinese pieces. How many of these molds would you say are still existent? -V
@TypeCoin971793 is more of an expert here. I know he had several, and some pretty cool pieces. I just captured this one because I liked it; had been involved in sand casting of aluminum, bronze, and iron products; and had manufactured a lot of injection molded items throughout my career. Similar process.
Fragments? Many thousands. Whole moulds? Far fewer. Probably fewer than 1000, with most being in museums. Intact moulds come up to auction occasionally. The last one I recall entering the non-Chinese market was in May 2019. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=3179&lot=918 A couple more: https://en.auction-world.co/xpai/list.jsp?GID=37&ITEM_AGE=2&SearchItemName=&ORDERBY=10 https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?search=bru&p=sale&sid=1359
