Found this in a roll, does it make an MS, and if so, what price tag should I put on it (getting ready for my first booth) stainless
the pics are too dark for me to say definatively, but it looks like if it's not MS, it real close! Are those marks on Lincoln's lapel, or dark spots?
No the coin is AU 55, i can tell by the pics still have some mint luster left. Jazzcoins Joe:whistle:
No it's an AU 55 because it still has some mint luster left on the obverse and a 56 cent in that condition is worth about 5 cents Sorry Jazzcoins Joe:whistle:
Stainless , nice find but the pics are a little dark as noted . I still see what looks like wear . Keep it or give it to some YN that would like it since you might get $.25 at the most for it , matter of fact give it to a little trick or treater tonight . rzage
It's hard to tell from the images, but... The RTY makes me think this is a weak strike. That would go a long way towards explaining the lack of detail I see in Lincoln's hair and beard (or it might be the image). To me once a coin drops out of the MS range I attribute strike issues with wear... I know this isn't technically correct, that's just how I roll. Now throw in the hits on the jacket (and what I could be a couple of more but might be the image). Since I think I do see just a hint of rub on Lincolns cheek that would mean this has to be in the AU range. I also don't think that 5% of the luster is left so can't go with RB. Nice roll find. Not a whole lot of numismatic value though. If I were going to sell it at a booth I'd 2x2 it - write 1956 P in the upper left hand corner - write AU 53 BR in the upper right hand corner - then write $.25 along the bottom - and then put it together with a few similar others and sell it in a group of 5 or 6 for a dollar.
I would put atleast .20 to .30 cents on it. Very common date. Even in gem unc red raw (65 to 66) they only go for $1.25. Now the same slabbed gem unc red 1956 might bring $20 to $40. That is why folks get the coins certified.
