I found this half dime metal detecting at an old fort along the central pacific railroad right of way in the nevada desert. Anyone care to comment on its value, and i just rubbed the dirt off enough to see the details. Also found a bunch of indian head pennys at the same spot, one is an 1877, which was in good condition until it corroded. My brother just found an 1866 seated liberty dime, in really good shape, once in a lifetime spot. We are not done hunting it yet.

Thanks if you could give me an estimate of the grade of the half dime and possible value, would probably sell it at the right price.

DO NOT CLEAN THE 1877 IHC!!! You could potentially lower the value of that rare coin by thousands of dollars if you improperly clean it. If I were you I would send that coin to NCS for professional conservation.

Nice finds. I wish I could find a site like yours to MD.

There were 160,000 1853-O Seated Liberty Half Dimes minted that year without arrows. Although the mintages on these early coins is very low, values do not reflect it in any way. There are exeptions, as in your case....values for this date start at $224 for G4 and up to over $7500 for MS60. Your coin in my opinion would grade XF40 easy. Which lists on Numismedia for $1470. Not too shabby either compared to an 1877 IHC. PLEASE....dont clean either one of these coins!!!! Nice finds by the way.

I'm back. I got home late last night. It felt good to sleep in my own bed after 8 weeks away. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things around here.

I'm not the best with Seated 1/2 dimes XF-40 , Take Hobos' advice send the '77 Indian to NCS and let them clean it , looks like a high end coin when it went in to the ground , Great finds .
