    Hello,
I picked this up a while back and was just wondering what it was worth. I picked it up to sell on Ebay but kind of like it and I am thinking about keeping it. The FREEDOM AMERICA MEDAL is 3 inches in mint condition. Theer is also an 1859 cent in at least fine and an 1878 Morgan in G to VG. They are encased in a plastic holder as shown. I paid $33 for the set. Any opinions appreciated. Sorry pics are so bad.

I saw that set on ebay for sale. Did you get that from Magnificent-6? I already have the medal so I didn't go for that one. Congrats!

Concerning these medals. There are a set of six, engraved by T. (Tivio?) Johnson and minted by the Medallic Art Company in 1962/63. I am trying to collect all six 3" bronze medals, I only have four so far. The two I am missing are very difficult to find, the St. Gaudens and the V.D.B.

Alan (Johnson) sent me the paperwork for all six of the medals and right now I just lay in wait for the last two I need for the set, wondering if I will ever be lucky enough to obtain them.

I'm in touch with Johnsons son (Who is Magnificent-6 on ebay) in hopes of obtaining the other 2. The four I bought were from him as well. He's sold out except for the Ancient Greece medal and the Ted Roosevelt medal, he still has some inventory of these two.

Medallic Art also made these in a smaller size medal (bronze) and a large 3" silver medal. They are extremely well done and very beautiful. Every now and then they come up for sale on ebay but beware, there are also copies out there.

Might I mention that they are also very scarce, especially the last two, the St. Gaudens and the V.D.B. These are going to be the most expensive as well.

If I were you, I'd hold on to that medal and not sell it unless you have another in hand. Although it's not that expensive right now, it's rare. Artwork like that is difficult to replace. IMHO, you are one of the lucky ones to have posession of that one, keep it. :thumb:

I see you also asked what it is worth. To me the T. Johnson medals are priceless. I'd just about pay anything within reason to obtain the last two I need for the set. (Keep in mind I am a collector, not a seller.) The Freedom America Medal that you have, Mr. Johnson prices at around $85.

I hope this information has helped you. :smile

    Examples

Here are pics of the other medals I have. The first 2 are the large bronzes and the third is the smaller bronze. The last is the 3" Ancient Greece medal. btw, all the medals are in extreme high relief which makes them even more desirable in mint condition.

    Ted Roosevelt/Charles Barber:

    Christian Gobrecht:

This is the smaller bronze of the Morgan/Longacre medal. As you can see, the reverse is different from the 3" medal, it has the Gobrecht eagle on it . I have both the one you have and this one, which is more difficult to obtain than the 3" bronze:

400 BC DECADRACHM (GREECE) VICTORY MEDAL:
[IMG]This medal was issued to recognize and honor Euaenetos, an artist of the highest skill in ancient Greece. Euenetos was commissioned to make the decadrachm, a silver piece of ten-drachms to commemorate the Syracusan victory over the invading Athenian forces about 400 BC. The original coins were presented to warriors and others who had a part in the victory and later to winners in athletic contests.
The obverse of this medal depicts the victorious chariot quadriga with the driver receiving his award garland. The reverse shows a symbolic ancient temple dedicated to Euaenetos in recognition of his artistry in design and execution of the original coin.

    Hello Becky62,
I purchased this set at a local coin shop. Thanks for all of the great info. Very nice looking medals. I have a few of the smaller size bronze ones. I think I will hold on to it for a while.
    Thanks again
