I found two quarters today that I would like to receive some insight on. " 92D that looks to be partially clipped and also a strange indention on reverse that shows through to the obverse. Also the coin is " wavy" in appearance with a wide esge rim with no ribbed texture on the side. I am thinking it might be a mint error and. . 99" Delaware that I have had in a Morgan Mint Collectors set with all 5 quarters made that year. The coins all have some die or something that colored the reverse of all the coins in the set. If the information I have found searching around online, i have believe that quarter has been struck on one of the experimental planchets and somehow ended up in my set. It has a "goldish" looking tone to the whole quarter front and back and looks really good. The only I am worried that the coloring on the back going to have negative impacts in the coins collectability but am aware it's quite possible that the color job on reverse is the only thing that makes the quarter worth more than 25c. Also none of the other 4 quarters in the set that also have coloring on the back look anywhere close to the coloring of the Delaware's obverse. Let me know what you think
Also at first glance at the obverse on the Delaware I thought it had something on it with a fingerprint throughout the coin but that is not the case after closer inspection. It is in my opinion the fingerprint looking stains are part of the coin and not post mint damage. Thanks
The 92 quarter has severe damage and not a mint error. The state quarter was painted after it left the mint and is not a experimental planchet. The obverse side looks to be natural toning.
Welcome to Coin Talk. I agree with what @rascal said. Also, the colorized Delaware State quarter has no numismatic value. Most collectors would consider a colorized coin as being damaged. Wish we could have given you better news.
