Im sure its a fake. The detail is washed out plus the raised bumps on the face and fields are a sure sign its of more recent ventage than 1866.

I have a feeling that the color of the Indian cent is supposed to be darker. Metal composition?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Is this one of your real-or-fake posts, or did you recently purchase this as a genuine error?

At this point, I don't want to comment until I know what sort of comment to post!

I bought this knowing it was a fake. Neither the planchet nor the die strike is real.

Ok, good.... because I was going to say that it really looks fake.

For education, can you point out two or three of the most significant signs this is a fake?

    Sure.

    1. For starters the denticles look nothing like how they should.

    2. The feathers are not very defined for what is a Mint State coin.

    3. The face is pitted but it is raised. That doesn't happen.

    4. The rims on the planchet are horrible. Clearly this never was in an upsetting mill, yet it doesn't have the diagnostics to be a type 1 blank either.
