Well, I guess I'll have to pass on this one. He says it's a "true billionaire's trophy coin", and I'm not a true billionaire. Deal me out. Lessee now.... $397,777 for a coin that doesn't exist, a listing with no pictures, and the dude has zero feedback... Call me crazy, but something just doesn't seem right about this one. Gonna have to report it to the CT Posse. :hammer:
I've heard of a trophy wife but never a trophy coin. Maybe when the stock market turns around and goes back up I might be at billionaire's status again.
Someone got out of the wrong side of bed and felt that Bill Gates mihgt bless him. Did the New Orleans mint ever make any proof coins?
There is the 1838-O Proof half http://www.coinlink.com/CoinGuide/f...-edge-half-dollar-proof-the-atwater-specimen/
NGC does not have an 1854O on their list of graded proof seated half dollar coins. The only 1 close in an 1852O graded PF62. I might be missing something but I don't see it listed. Could it be another chinese coin of a date(coin) that doesn't exist ? Don't know.........John
Pcgs???? PCGS may have grade one. I have seen one listed in the page of dream coin ad's in Coin World.the cost of the coin is why I haven picked it up. someone here may have the$$$ or if you want to buy it for a needy soul with out $50,000.00-100,000.00 just e-mail me I will give you my address!
It's not listed in either coinfacts.com or the Red Book. If anyone has a Breen Complete Encyclopedia, that would be a better source. Yes, there have been a few branch mint proofs. Spendy ! Spendy enough to expect a picture before throwing down $397,777 on e-bay ! :computer:
I emailed the seller for pictures. These are what he sent. No telling if it's the obverse and reverse of the same coin. The seller's phone number if anyone wants to talk to him 603-293-0348
Greetings to you all, my brethren. Forgive me for being so forward, as you do not know me, but let me introduce myself. I am Dewey Screwem, the eldest son of the recently deceased King of Ghana. Upon going through my father's possessions, I discovered a small box; a chest, if you will. Upon opening it, I discovered a veritable treasure. I did not search through all the coins, but examining a handful I see one of these 1854-O proof half dollars of which you speak, along with a 1913 Liberty nickel, a 1974 aluminum cent, and a 1933 gold double eagle. Thousands of other similar coins are contained therein. The problem is that the military is not letting any of the royal family family out of the country. I would like to entrust this treasure to you, to keep safe until I can come claim it. For your cooperation and trustworthiness, I shall reward you with twenty percent of the value of these coins. I have contracted with someone who has connections with Customs, who is willing to smuggle these coins out of Ghana and bring them to you, but they require a $20,000 down payment...
I also believe we have a member that would be interested in a 1913 Proof V-Nickel, if you happen to have one laying around? Ribbit
As I mentioned, the coins are unsearched. However, for your benefit, let me check... <thirty heart-stopping minutes pass> In the deepest corner of the chest, I did manage to locate 4 rolls of Peace dollars dated 1964. I checked with a well-respected third-party grader <cough>...SGS...<cough> and they said they they will each grade MS-70. Please! There is not much time. You must remit the funds to get the coins out of the country before they are confiscated!
Whew! I was a little short of cash and worried about how I'd come up with the 400K, but I see they take "eBay Mastercard" and no payments until 2009! In for 2!
