Very similar to @coinquest1961 coin French 20 franc Marianna & Rooster. (1899-1914) Designed by engraver Jules-Clément Chaplain. For those interested in medals, he did this one of the visit of Nicolas II & Alexandra commemorating their visit to France in 1896. He received great praise for it.
Well there are so many beautiful World Coin designs to choose from...but I guess the ones that stick out the most for me are the following: Queen Victoria and St. George the Dragon Slayer Silver and Gold Coin & Queen Victoria and Una the Mighty Lion Silver and Gold Coins I believe these are probably high on a lot of folks list for most beautiful World Coin...or I could be wrong...but look at how beautiful both of these specimens are. Thank you and enjoy what remains of your day.
Personally, the earlier design of 1850-1873 seems more attractive, but the Swiss sure do know how to design beautiful coinage.
The reverse of this medal is quite stunning too. I should get a larger version of it, but you can get a sense from this:
@PaddyB arguably one of the most beautiful reverses on any coin. Here is my plain edge in .999 silver I also like the Austria 1914 4 Ducats for their detail The 1951 Morocco 50 Francs off-metal strike in gold (only known example) And the New Zealand 1935 Waitangi half crown. The Crown, although very rare, is not that pretty 1989 500th Anniversary of the sovereign....5 Sovereign (5 pound)
Tunisia 1952 100 Francs Kingdom of Thrace 297-281 BC. Lysimachus Tetradrachm which I think has a very arty reverse Phoenicia Byblus Ozbaal/Azbaal shekel 400-340 BC. Quite possibly the highest ever graded at MS 5 and 5. I think they have really captured the intensity when the lion attacks the bull very vividly
This is my favorite Una & the Lion. I am looking for a non matte version of a 5 pound / 2nd portrait of the queen. 1985 is when they switched to the 3rd likeness (I think)
Well since Una and the Lion seem to be very popular, here's mine: And Yes, I agree a very imposing and captivating reverse. Maybe when I grow up I'll get myself the 1839 version
Or a house! LOL. Good job. That is a very nice coin; wish I hadn't been such a snob when they came out.
