new elephant token on ebay real or counterfeit

As you may remember a few days ago I found a counterfeit "1943 copper cent" on ebay, well here is probable counterfeit listing number two. http://cgi.ebay.com/1694-New-Englan...14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318






as most of us know this is a very rare and valuable coin. Who in their right mind would start a $90,000+ coin for 99 cents as a starting bid? also something about the coin looks wrong. Any thoughts?

Ps: Heritage doesn't have a pic of one and the only ones I can find pics of are copies but they are suppose to be "exact" copies and considering the lettering of the copy above mimics the Carolina Elephant Token, I believe it is correct and the one being sold is a cheap counterfeit.

Compared to the one Toad shows threre are many differences , if there was only one type made it's a fake , if there were more than 1 type they are drastic differences , I don't know much about these tokens to make a call , but it is sure suspicious . There are no dots next to the E in preserve in Toads piece , and in the ebay one the dots are all different .

I know colonials but I've still haven't seen a real New England Elephant Token. The only ones I've seen, that are authentic, are Carolina & London versions. The New England is extremely rare and if you check on Heritage, they've sold a ton of London versions and a few Carolina versions, but never a New England version, so that says something.

However, there is a pic of one in Breen's Encyclopedia:



By the looks of that, the lettering is like the one I posted, so the one for sale is a cheap copy.

I didn't like the "look" of it but I went ahead and checked it against all known varieties and even checked it against known contemporary counterfeits, and it doesn't match up to anything and if you know what these normallly look like, you'll see the eagle's head is "off" as is the rest of it. :goofer:

I'm just wondering how come you can't report something using the report this item at the bottom of the page of the article you're reporting unless you say you recieved a counterfeit , then they ask how you paid etc , etc . Heck I want to report it not buy it , what am I doing wrong .

Try :

Reason for Report = Fraudulent listing
Detailed Reason = You suspect that a listing is fraudulent you didn't bid

 

The CCW lik is the best way to report it instead of the link at the bottom of the page plus you get more than 100 spaces for explaining why you are reporting it.
