The bride spotted this silver 25¢ in her change. What a gal. She wasn't searching just sharp eyed enough to know the difference between clad and silver. A collection being broken up? A piggy bank being raided? That's two silvers this month. Amazing.

and nice find by the way!
I recently just found silver too (from a friend at the bank) it was a 40% Kennedy though...

I got a 1942 Mercury dime in change on the Boardwalk in New Jersey this summer.....you'd have thought I hit the lottery when I got it. My wife excitedly asked how much it was worth, and I told her about a buck. This just confirmed to her that I'm nuts.

    Silver

Another quarter, can't recall the date but it was common. I got it in change, not searching, from CVS Drug Store.

A 40% Kennedy is sweet. I love the halves. Were the 40% a regular issue?

    Its both.
    1965-1969 Kennedy's (40%) are regular issue.
but the 1970 Kennedy (the last year of 40%) was only found in Mint Sets.

    Mine's a 1967 :)

Pretty nice that you found a quarter though (two of them too!), I mean, the only silver I've truly found in change has been two dimes, both Roosevelts.

Yeah, it's rare to find them. One of my first CT posts was a collection of 50 or 60 silver quarters. Everone was amazed until I clarified the post....it took twenty odd years to find them all. That's with two people looking and my wife handles a thousand or so every month.

How about your Rosies? Nice shape or worn out? Did the coins jump out at you or was it that distinctive " Ping ' silver makes?

I get quite a buzz when some silver pops up. I keep asking for deuces at the bank looking for red seals. No luck yet.

The image is a repost from 06/08. Took forever to find them, all common but wonderful to handle. Nothing like precious metal to get your heart rate up.

I don't think I read that post... or maybe I did. Still impressive, considering I've looked in my change for the past 5 years or so, and have not found one! And wow! Some Standing Liberties in there too!

Well, how I find them is by looking at the edges (to see if its all silver). The first one I found was a 1957, and it was pretty worn, which is what made me look at it. The other one though (1964), I found at work (I worked in a bakery with 2 cash registers) and that I found by looking at the rim.

But they do have a distinct look don't they? Although sometimes those older ones can fool you! Not like the War Nickels, those just jump right out! (especially if they're worn)

How about the Canadians when you are searching the edges? They get your hopes up and then.......Dang.

Coinflation.com puts a silver "two bitter" at $1.76 today. I think it's been much higher but metals are swinging wildly. I'd have to be down and out to cash mine in. Just too nice to send to the smelter.

haha, yup. See that silver edge in a roll of quarters and think "" but then "oh... Canadian"

LOL - that is exactly what happened to me when they gave change last week. I saw the silver edge and dropped it into my pocket without looking at it - thinking don't let anyone see it. Got out to my car pulled it out and thought "crap". Still it went into my canadian jug of coins. :)

I have yet to find a silver quarter in change in years.

I picked up a heavily worn 1919 merc (see avatar) in change about six months ago. It means more to me than most of the expensive coins I've bought recently. Reminds me of how I use to get all my coins back in the 1950's...
