What I kind find on the internet but they are mostly D's and S's I only found one P and couldn't zoom in to see it clearly.
You didn't post full sized photos of both sides showing the entire coin. I can't tell what I'm looking at other than a birds legs and feet.
If that is the case then it has 4 claws as the D and S I looked at had 3 with two in front and the third was to the side.
I think I see what you are asking about. It looks like it is from a small die break or die gouge between the birds claws. Our modern coin dies seems to get lots of this type damage. I suppose it is because they have to produce a lot of coins now days.
