    Hello everyone,
Today I did one of the best metal detecting hunts ever. A 5 hour trip to my local park wielded some very good finds. An area that I don't usually search turned out to be a sweet spot.
How sweet?.. Old US Coins galore!
I found 2 Mercury Dimes, 2 Silver Roosevelt Dimes and 14 Wheat Cents all within 2 hours!
It was like a dream :jawdrop:.. Enjoy! :woot:

Early in the hunt I also picked up a neat silver ring with the Christian Fish Symbol.

The rest of my finds before all the good stuff
    25C - 8 each
    10C - 13 each
    1C - 55 each

It was much more difficult for me to plant this trove than it was for you to find them, whew! :hilarious:

Thanks!.. There were very good signals that were deeper. I only had my hand held digger so I only went for anything 6 to 8 inches down. Tomorrow morning at 6am I'm heading back with my detecting shovel!

No wonder and I would too! Hope you have a good day tomorrow. I know you'll have fun. It got cold here. How about up there in NYC?

The ring looks to be a James Avery design.
Be sure and check for his mark 'AV' or some derivative.

Very nice finds. No matter how many times a place has been hunted you can always find more.

I had some holes just like that to fill in today. Mine were in the wife's follow bed and were made by Armadillos. Good fun you had. I like to see these photos.

Nice. Do you have any idea how or why there is so much stuff there? Especially the older coins. Is that area turned over a lot? Were there carnivals, church festivals, etc. over the years? I'm just curious about how it came to be such a hot spot.

Great question. I have been detecting the same park for about 10 years. I have used 3 different metal detectors. I have had some good finds but today was the best. It's a simple grassy area that I never really detected much before. If I tell you the reason why you will laugh. Back in the late 1980's I would go to that spot to picnic and play volleyball with a girl I was dating and her family. It was a hard breakup so over 30 years later I always avoided going there. Sad memories of a long lost love.. But today I went there and to my surprise I did very good. I don't know how all the coins ended up there because the rest of the park never produced as much as this new area. It's a mystery to me.

Simple, you're finding what you lost dating that girl in the '80's.

Been there, done that, just don't dig in the same spots.

I didn't have my big detecting shovel to go for the deeper signals. I had my handheld Lesche Digger. So I only dug up the items that were as far down as 8 inches. So in the morning I'm going to be making some deep huge plugs.

If you are seeking my plants, 6-8" is as deep as you will need to go. The ones I planted last year may require a backhoe.
