Here are two Chinese coins that I have found.. ..while metal detecting.. I believe they are pretty common. Old though, 1700s I believe someone told be once.
duplicates Hi,this is my first post. I've had these same coins for 30 some yrs. and have never known a thing about them other than they looked oriental along with a few dozen others which remain a mystery to me. Have you come across any new info other than whats on this thread? Thanks.
Howdy lakebreeze - Welcome to the Forum !! I split your question off and started a new thread to avoid confusion. If you can post a pic of the coins you have I'm sure someone will be able to help you identify your coins.
Welcome to the forum lakebreeze. Please post pictures of your coins. There are literally thousands of designs of Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean/Japanese cash coins produced over more than a millenium. It would be a most amazing coincidence if two ramdom groups of two coins were in fact identical. I'm fairly certain that a careful comparison of your coins with those of jimmiejam would disclose differences in the characters. The style of the individual characters is as important as their meaning in attributing these coins.
Chi'en Lung, 1736-95. With a 60 year reign and virtually only one coin (denomination/type) issued, there's billions of them, and they're everywhere.
that's common Hi, Billions? I have 8 of them, maybe I'll use them as sinkers next time i fish.Thanks.
If you lose the coin I can see the headlines already. "Man finds rare chinese coin in Catfish" LOL!!!!
Although they're cast, when you've got a dozen or so mints pumping out a single coin for 60 years, the number's gotta be in the billons.
But how many last till today in good condition? Most are beyond recognition and most are in worse condition than what you have. The picture showing the Chinese inscription is upside down btw.
