hey everyone I got a rather interesting coin in my change today a US 1 dollar coin. This is rather odd as I live in canada and have never seen one with my own eyes or even held one until today and was wondering if anyone would be able 2 direct me to a link about it or tell me some more information. It has the statue of liberty on the one side with the denomination and a image of john adams on the reverse. Dated 2007 on the outter rim with a "D" mint mark. any information would be greatly appreciated :smile
It's a John Adams Presidental Dollar coin, there are 5 for '07 and 5 for '08, next year the MM and other wont be on the rim anymore sorry but thats all I know. stainless

ahh ok i'm rather surprised I haven't seen one before then. I barely noticed till i looked in my wallet for change and thought thats odd one of my loonies has edge lettering. there both about the same size so i woulda figured i'd have seen a few more by now
There are 4 presidential dollars released each year. They are released in the order they were president. So far, in 2007,2008, the edge was lettered with the mint mark, E Pluribus Unum, year, and In God We Trust. In 2009, I think that may change. In my opinion, the reverse of the coin, the Statue of Liberty, is one of the nicer designs ever on a modern coin. The proof presidential dollars are quite nice also.
Designer/Sculptor......US mint artistic infusion program. A lot of these designs are from people who know how to draw a design but can't sculpt worth a hoot, hence two sets of initials
Well, they really don't circulate much. Most people in this country are really against dollar coins so they don't get used hardly at all. I rarely ever see them.
really why are people against them> it would save the country money in the long run as bills don't last near as long as coins and is a good way of educating the public of the presidents
Unlike the USA I believe you folks up in Canada eliminated the paper dollar. If that ever was done here in the States people would have no other option than to use the Presidential dollars. Of course, before the government can even consider removing paper dollars from circulation to encourage the use of Presidential Dollars, a very extensve and expensive study would have to be conducted.
why would they even bother to waste the money on a study? they know coins last longer then paper money thus saving money and reducing the debt owed to the central bank that produces the bills.
I think what they want to do is put the coins out there in the hopes that the people like them and then remove the paper $1 bill. But, people are so set in their ways that they don't want to do that. What it will take is for the government to simply stop making the $1 and only make the coin, thus force people to use the coin. I personally don't like to carry change, but I understand that it would save a ton of money and be a good thing. But, a lot of people are against it.
I agree with you my friend....doesn't take a lot of moxy to know that if you get rid of the paper more folks will use the metal, they'll have to. As for my statement on a government study....I'm just being a smart @#$.
ha well it sounds like sumthing the gov't would do always need a study for something that is just common sense. lol but purhaps they could put new presidents on the bills as well as any extra education would be a nice way to help kids along
I have always believed that the government looked at the state quarters they have been making since 1999 and saw how excited a lot of people became with them. Tons of people collect them, it has been really popular. I'd imagine they saw that and realized if they could create the same excitement about a dollar coin...it might help them circulate. So, that's why I believe they created the Presidential Dollar Series...because if they could gain interest in them and make them circulate, they could get them accepted and get rid of the dollar bill. This is my own theory however, I have no idea if it is actually true.
