    Is this an error? It looks like a D but also an S.

    There were no S mint marks for 1977- so, it could be a small die chip.

    You're showing the 1977-S Proof; I believe that "Lego" was referring to the business strikes. ~ Chris

    PS. The image in your first post is just a damaged "D".

    The top of the D took a hit so it's damaged. The second set of photos show a 1977-S but that's a proof and only the S mintmark was made in San Francisco in proof. Your coin is a business strike so it's a D. Welcome to CT.
