1916 Hobo Nickel, is it an original? Opinions Welcome.

A friend of mine has this hobo nickel.
In your opinion is it an original carving,
or a modern carving.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think it's modern, but I'm no expert.
Why you say, I don't recall an original with the reverse carved.

Nice piece to my eye it is a modern carving.
