Okay here is my initial contact and his response: You asked: "Hello, I am fairly new to collecting and am quite interested in buying this coin off of you so my question is would you accept cash? Sincerely, Russell" Yes, I will except cash however I would have to receive it before the merhchandise is shipped to you! Thank you! Tony Then I sent him this: Okay- I would use paypal but I have a balance limit with that or a money order but I believe there is a limit with that as well. By the way what did you pay for the coin? If I bid and win the coin it will make me feel simply wonderful knowing I own a coin with such a low mintage and will help show my patriotism. Russell That was a couple hours ago now and I have not heard back from him...
hehehe. That's good NOS. I hope he replies to you. But something tells me that he won't tell you what he payed for the coin. But, ya never know. Let us know what you find out.
Well, It looks like he listened to reason: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3967921438 Here's his reply to me. Thank you Mark for your wisdom! I should have listened! You know what, if you look again, I think that you will be most satisfied! Tony
Well that's a little better Personally, I can't stomach all the WTC coin sales (legit or otherwise). IF and only IF every last penny of the sale of such coins went to the families of those who lost their lives on that dark day would I be ok with it. I work across the street from ground zero, so my opinion is a bit biased.
Not to get off topic, but I'll bet it's nice to see #7 rise up so quickly, eh? It's too bad 'the powers that be' decided on that 70 story perch for a bird cage AKA as Freedom Tower.
I do not know were all these minicoins come from but ebay europe is at times infested with 10 to 12 mm coins weighing about 0.6 gram of gold and BIG pictures for those that do not read or do not know what 10 mm means Even bulk gold like belgian 20 francs kings are offered were you can get 5.8 grams of gold at bulkprice for the real thing
There are literally hundreds of companies out there that manufacture these novelties. That's all they are - novelties. They make miniature replicas - gold, silver & platimum plated replicas, stamped or countermarked replicas - and they do all of the above to genuine coins. You can even have your own coin designed and manufactured if you wish.
Okay this is what he sent before the 1st auction ended and he was very evasive with my question about what he paid as you can see here: Hello! I would like to wish you the best of luck! Thank you! Tony I did not reply but then this morning I received this which says almost the same thing kiyardo's does: "Hello Russell! This coin is very rare! I have made revisions to this item that I think you will find very welcoming! Only a certain amount of these solid gold coins as well as the solid silver coins ever got out, before they put a stop to it! For example some were minted and are not solid gold but are gold plated or are silver clad! The extreme rarity of this coin is real! Nevertheless it is certified, and the gold is from the WTC! Thank you, Tony" I did have to go looking for the new auction but I knew what to do.
< Read the listing NOS. 10mm 8K gold means that there is a plating of 8K gold. 8K is .3333 gold, so the total pure gold on that coin weighs considerably less than 1 gram. The current spot price of gold is approximately $14 per gram. > What in the listing makes you think it is plated? I've encountered several of thes in the past and none of them have been plated. They have all been solid 8K gold.
Okay a couple days ago I got this reply from him after I asked what happened to the relisted auction: Hello Tony, I was quite interested in bidding on the coin with the revised price. I noticed that it was taken down. Might I be so bold as to ask what happened?? Sincerely, Russell "Hello Russell, I'm quite sorry =( about the inconvenience! Well as you know I listed this rare coin for $60,000 and then for .99 cents! My wife found out what I had done without consulting her, I tried to explain that, that is how E-bay works, she became furious and told me to pull the auction! Look! We don't want to get rich (although that would be nice) we would have wanted to sell the coin for at least 1 bid of $60,000 U.S. dollars so as to pay our home! Being this coin is quite rare 1 of 3500 we will wait and see if we can get some offer around $60,000 U.S dollars for it, if not then we shall wait and see! Again I apologize for this inconvenience, I did however enjoy your conversation! Thank you! =) Tony"
It's rediculous - at best the item is worth the gold content, nothing more. And assuming it does contain 1/4 oz of gold that would be approx $105.00. Personally I wouldn't pay $20.00 for it.
Hmmm well he says he wants atleast 60 grand cuz it is 1 of just 3500 coins minted but I guess that doesn't matter with it...
