Again the purpose of this thread Is to confirm that proof dies from 1942 type 1 obvereses, were used or repurposed to strike 1942 type 2 proof nickels. The edivence seems to be in order to assume that.....Dwhiz example is in fact the obv. of a known 1942 proof ddo/ddr example.
Which DDO are we talking about ? Is it WDDO-003, or WDDO-004 ? https://www2.briansvarietycoins.com/listings/cat/15
@Paddy54 I will say I bid on it not thinking I would win. I was surprised that I did . Thanks for all your help, this is what makes CT great.
I love finds like this..... and I love picking....I actually was asked not to pick a member here....well pick them and then tell them. Imagine walking a coin show with Rick and I ......
Red number 3 looks good to me . http://varietyvista.com/04a JN DD Vol 1/1942PRED003.htm Mint-Mark placement looks good to .
You two ( paddy54 & dwhiz ) have me searching the internet now . Sounds like some nice die pairs, to be found ...
Now you see....how educational this thread is? The saying inquiring minds want to know....is so true. Now realize the history and data concerning such mint practices, that in fact maybe historic. Well to some maybe all.....but we do love the history, the information on mintages, errors, and other misc. Items found on coins. My wish is that others members do find this thread and enjoy reading and learning .....to research more and find the answers. Learning to study a coin mapping it in your mind and then comparing it to a known variety ....finding a known or something new variety. Happy hunting....
I wouldn't go as far as saying repurposed as I would say they continued to be used. I imagine the same happened with business strike coins, although circulation makes this harder to determine. At any rate, here's my 42-P Proof 5c PCGS PR67. If I recall, it's DDR-004.
