    Hi, my name is Ron.
I have several cellophane sealed 1971 D Uncirculated mint sets. One of
them has a Jefferson Nickel without a D mint mark. All the rest of the
coins in all the rest of the sets have the D mint (including all the
other Jefferson nickels). How can I find out the value of the oddball
    set?

Appreciate any advice or help you could give me.

According to the Red Book, the 1971 Mint Set included P, D & S issues (excluding the Ike). I guess it is possible that a Philly nickel was inserted into the Denver set by mistake. ~ Chris

One of those mint sets should have blue stripes from the Philadelphia mint, which will also have the s mint cent. You have 2 from the Denver mint with the red stripes.

Edit. Sorry you said that. That being said I see some blurriness on the 9 in the date as possibly some photo shopping? In any event would not be worth a premium IMO.

Mint Packaging mistakes rarely bring a premium and in some cases can actually lower the value of the set (if someone wants all of the uncirculated D mint coins from 1971, they can't get them from your set).

I still think it's cool, even if it has no extra value

Please do not remove it from the original mint packaging. Can you give us a closeup of both sides?

Unless I am misinformed, I understood that these cellophane sets were put together by a third party, not the mint, so it is possible that they just grabbed a P nickel and stuck it in there.

There are a lot of people who buy the Mint Sets looking for high grades to submit. I'm guessing that these were just leftovers that didn't necessitate cutting up for high grade coins. ~ Chris
