Prices Realized are up for the Robinson sale yesterday. My results will follow when the Post Office delivers. There are a couple I did not win that I am really hoping someone here did.

Looks like I may have won two out of 8 lots. Neither of which were the top two I wanted. Like @dougsmit, I will post my coins once they arrive in my grubby hands.

I actually bid on this auction for the first time & won, though near high my max bid.

I usually stick to his cheap or world list but this one particular coin stood out for me to bid on it.

And it's just a medieval/early modern world coin but one I am excited to get.

Like Doug, I don't share anything till it's in my possession.

If I accomplish nothing else in life, may I go down as a teacher not to count your chickens before they are hatched (or delivered by USPS?).

    Does Frank send invoices?

Yes, Frank sends an invoice with your coins. Once they arrive in the mail send him a check or use paypal. I bid on four and won 2.

Actually I withdrew my bid on the two I didn't get because the bidding went to insanely high prices that were many multiples of the starting suggested bids for some reason. I hung in there for awhile but gave up around 5pm as the bids were just getting higher and higher. I did get two Byzantines, folles of Justin II and Focas which went for about 5x the asking price.

Looks like I won the single coin I bid on just a smidge below my high.

Congratulations on the winners. I never entered a FSR auction, I tend to avoid US-based auctions due to import and so on. Besides that - and don't understand me wrong, this is not a complaint or something like that - I get the feeling his auctions always tend to get great results, a little bit too good for my wallet :) I love his descriptions of the lots though, and always look at them.

I won one coin lot (and one lot of history books). Got outbid on another coin lot, but it went above where I felt it would have been a good deal, so I'm not sad about that.

I apparently won 2 of 8 lots, and missed a third lot by $1. Frank’s coins rarely disappoint in hand, when compared to the auction photos.

I scored two out of four. One is a rarity I won by the skin of my teeth, and the other is a thing it seems I wanted much more than whoever else was in the running (judging from the large margin between my winning bid and my max). It’ll be three or four weeks before they’re delivered to me, if I’m lucky. Fingers crossed they make the journey safely and that I don’t regret either of them! :D

I did the same thing at four times the winning bid! A couple of catalogs(one especially) that I expected to go for much more. Was surprised to see Franks opening bid so low.

Thank you. That is exactly how I feel about European auctions. I don't collect terribly expensive coins so sometimes it seems that the post office makes more profit on a sale than any of the participants.

Those of you who are sitting there raising bids every time someone else out bids you, really should try the other method. Send in honest bids giving what you are willing to pay to get that coin. If no one wants it more, you get it for a small advance over the second highest bid. This sale had a coin I really wanted (217) starting at half what I was willing to pay. I bid my top number and lost by more than I felt comfortable paying so there was no back and forth from me. The winner had bid nearly a hundred dollars more but got it for only a little more than I bid. The next lot (418) was a more evenly popular coin since the winner only was reduced by $1. The lots I won included one that hammered at $19 less than my bid. Participants might enjoy looking over the prices realized and seeing that some bids got reduced a lot and others not due to intense competition. It is fun to see which lots you might actually have won with a little more and which ones were ridiculous in your opinion. There is one lot that went for over ten times the start and I can not understand why. Two bidders wanted it a lot more than I did; one got it. In any sale, there are similar things to see in Prices Realized but very few sellers disclose the size of the winning bid so you do not know if you had bid a dollar more whether you might have won. Even when Frank shows only a dollar difference, you do not know what would have happened if you had raised your bid. There always could be another bidder lurking in the background ready to drop another raise near closing.

There are several sub-hobbies available to us. I take photos. Some study the history extensively. Some spend a lot of time reading Prices Realized and playing "What were they thinking?" when some coins go through the roof.

I won two out of seven. I'll post 'em when I photograph them and crack one of them out of its incorrectly attributed slab.

I won 1 out of 7. It wasn't one of my top picks but it has a reverse that I like. Looking forward to adding it to the collection :)

I made fair bids up front within a couple of days of the start of the pre-auction period. I did get notified by Frank when I was outbid on the lots and revised my bids upward. However, by May 2nd I had been outbid again. So I raised my bids. Then on the 4th I checked back and two of them were far above what I was willing to pay. Byzantine coins, too. A couple of folks really wanted those folles!

I thought about bidding on a couple of them but the prices were way beyond what I could afford.

I went in with bids I thought I was willing to pay for each coin. When Frank notified me I'd been outbid on 6 lots, I just let 'em go.
