This coin finally arrived today. The speculation in RIC is that this coin may have been struck for as few as 4 days. During this period of 88 CE, Domitian's imperial acclamations were being added very quickly. RIC surmises that this indicates a period of heightened military activity. This is quite a rare coin but that does not mean it is sought after. It is after all yet another Minerva reverse for Domitian. However, the slight differences including the numbering of the imperial acclamations gives us the insight that these coins are connected to actual historical events. We may not have a record of many of the battles that Domitian fought, but we have the coins. The original photo from the auction house was not very good. I was surprised then when I saw the condition of this coin. The portrait is great and there is great detail on the Minerva on the reverse. Please post your coins of Domitian. Domitian (81-96). Congrats on picking up such a rare coin @Orfew I glad it finally arrived. There is almost nothing worse than having to wait on a highly desired coin.
Very nice and detailed reverse. Plus I thought I was the only man on earth waiting for a coin bought in last February. It seems I wasn't...but now I'm the last one...

Nice addition! I've recently added four coins of Domitian - of which I still have to photograph two. I'm not really 'into' Domitian. I guess this is a relatively early denarius of him as Caesar (?)
