I just was curious to see the response from collectors on the statehood quarted painted series. I personally don;t collect them, but I must say they are rather beautiful coins. I could appreciate the art work on them as far as the color cobinations.Well if i was starting out as a young collector i would be collecting them, along with the regular state hood quarter series one of each. Let me know what you think about them etc etc. Jazzcoins Joe:whistle::whistle:
As art I think there pretty cool and would probably buy them, as coins probably not worth more than .25 each and never will be. IMO
Nope, I dont like them and certainly wouldn't buy them. Even if the Statehood Quarters would appreciate in value these wouldn't because they're altered. A waste of time and money.
I have no interest in collecting them...just not my thing. But I do appreciate the art work and think they are quite pretty. My problem with things like this is they charge outrageous prices for pieces like these (I don't know if these in particular do, but a lot of coins like this do) and they make it seem as if they are really collectible. A lot of the time, someone who doesn't know better is basically taken advantage of by these types of coins. Again, I am speaking generally...I have no idea how these specific coins have been marketed or priced. If they were selling for a reasonable price (like $0.50 or $1 each or something) it would be fine with me. But, typically they are more expensive than that. They need to cost more than face because there was a cost for the company that made them...but it should be reasonable.
That's kinda where I'm at. It actually bothers me see a painted coin. I can see how some folks love 'em, and that's cool. To each their own. But not for me.
I can see how that could be, but in this case I think it's fine. The reason is these statehood quarters can be found in circulation and even high grade examples are basically worthless. What bother's me is when I see painted coins that are limited in number and numsitically interesting. I cringe when I see painted Morgan and Peace Dollars...even painted ASE's bother me because they don't make that many of them and they have collector value. But state quarters...meh.
Yes I do agree on what your saying, I can't see painting a peace dollar they are more valuable and scrace or a morgan too. Jazzcoins:whistle:  Joe
I collect coins as they were issued (MS) or used (circulated). Other influences on their characteristics don't interest me.
Hmmmm. Along those lines, on a serious note, I wonder what these painted coins would look like in 20 years? In 50 years? in 100 years? It's possible they could become quite interesing with some aging. Hadn't ever really thought about that.
