I found it in a unsearched bag of wheat pennys. Is it possible wrong planchet or is it something else like a experimental penny. Its silver looking and it is still 3.11 grams and not magnetic. I need opinions. 15885528360378139543256192999432.jpg 15885529479596863805187248398359.jpg

No where to be honest. Your best chances are from CRH, coin roll hunting.

I believe that all of them have been searched at one time or another. The only question that remains is when. I have bags of wheat Cents that I've never searched. Does that mean unsearched? Not in my book.

Although there may(?) be honest sellers out there, consider the odds of finding a truly unsearched bag. Postings of vault finds or estate purchases for sale usually occur after the bags have been sifted and the good coins removed leaving the buyer with the dregs. Does a really unsearched bag go to market, maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

well that is true I bought 4 rolls before and found IHC and some VF 1910-1913. And a xf09 vdb. But you have to trust who you buy from. A lot of sell are truthfull all the time...

My wife handed me two small cloth bags of coins from change she had accumulated over the recent years. She knows nothing about coins, so I consider these two bags as unsearched. :)

I can buy “unsearched bags” from my local coin dealer. He is an honest man and he will tell you he hasn’t searched them. That’s not to say no one has.

Yes, simple math. The last Wheat Cent was issued in 1958 and that was 62 years ago. I think in 62 years they sell been searched.

I guess this means the two bags my wife gave me have already been searched. What a bummer! ;) At least not 're-searching' them will not cause me eye strain. :)

There are a lot of bags out there that were never searched for error coins. Many years ago most folks were just searching for dates and mintmarks.

In my humble opinion, yes they've been searched by someone. You need to search them. It's fun and you may find something. You find find an error like a Cud, Die chip or crack. You may find a variety. You haven't searched them, someone has, but you don't know what they were looking for. Besides, it's fun so enjoy your time and the hobby. :)
