While at work, my proxy bid held up. I ended up after long search getting a MS Honorius Tremissis Western Roman Empire AV Tremissis ND (394-402) 1.52g. 14mm. Mediolanum Mint Honorius 393-423 DN HONORI VS PF AVG VICTORIA AVGVSTORVM Pearl-diademed/ draped/ ciurassed bust right Victoria advancing right/ holding globus cruciger/ wreath
..kool panzerman...i have a couple of him, but in poor man's bronze......his and his brother and father's rule was truly a historic time...
John, That tremisses is a beauty, & much rarer than the solidus ! About 6 years ago I sold a more common tremisses & regret letting it go .
Nice coin @panzerman. All I have of Honorius is an A3 with a facing bust of the emperor, helmeted and holding shield and spear.
Thank everyone for comments. I definately know Al is right about them being harder to get then the solidi. I am back (finally) since April 6th back at work, so my coin time is limited. I do check various auctions for interesting lots. This one came from Hungarian Auction "Golden Lion Auctions". I dealt in past with Pannonia Terra Numizmatika and loved their conservative grading/ prompt service. John
Congrats, @panzerman ! John, that is a gorgeous slab of gold! It is a denomination that I do not have, well done.
A real beauty, John. Congratulations! Without having researched it, just an impression: Aren’t the tremissis coins more often found in lower grades compared to the larger solidus? Your coin looks almost uncirculated.
Thanks all! Yes, the Tremissis from Honorius are really tough to find in true mint state. Sometimes you will see a NGC graded MS example, but the Europeans would grade these EF at best.
